The Dainty Bess project originally started in 2009 when Naas and Jenny Ferreira made a bubbly from a small vineyard planted at Klein Optenhorst, their beautiful home in Wellington. The wine was named after the property.

After 29 years, they decided to sell the farm and move to Montagu and their youngest daughter Jane Ferreira-Eedes resolved to continue producing the wine as it holds many memories of special occasions at the family home, the name now changed to Dainty Bess, one of Jenny's favourite rose types.

The Dainty Bess is a five-petalled creamy pink with showy burgundy stamens - remarkable in that stamens in roses are usually yellow or gold. Fragrant, freely flowering throughout summer and autumn. Dark green leathery foliage on a bush about a metre tall and wide.

This 100% Pinot Noir Cap Classique has the most delightful pink and copper tinge colour, with a rich palate by virtue of 34 months on the lees. If you're looking for something a little special, this boutique wine won't disappoint. With only 3147 wines being produced a year, it really is one of a kind.

The 2015 vintage is harvested from a vineyard planted in 1990 on Klein Optenhorst in the Bovlei valley of Wellington, with additional grapes harvested from Shannon Vineyards in Elgin. The two vineyards are harvested in the early hours of the morning and transported to the Graham Beck cellar in Robertson (the same cellar which produced the sparkling wine chosen by Obama for his inauguration).  Meticulous care is taken through the whole wine making process.

Whole bunch pressing ensures fractional recovery. After settling of juice the Pinot Noir is fermented in a stainless steel tank at 14 to 15 ̊ C. The wine is kept in contact with its primary lees for 10 weeks before being stabilized and bottled for secondary fermentation. The wine was left for 34 months on its secondary lees before disgorgement.
